Maison Huit is excited to announce our 3rd collaboration with internationally renowned Japanese ceramist Akio Nukaga to host his solo exhibition in Hong Kong. This exhibition will include new ceramic works by the famous potter from Kasama. The exhibition will run from 21 March through 20 April.

Akio Nukaga, born in Tokyo and currently based in Kasama in Ibaraki Prefecture, is known for his rustic and modern ceramic tableware and vases that invite viewers to touch and use. ‘I believe that my works are meant for everyday use with joy and that the most important part of my work is that people can enjoy the organic texture of soil and glaze’, says Akio. Akio often finds inspirations from nature, and this is perhaps the reason why his works demonstrate warmth and subtlety. Akio’s signature collections include ‘pleated work’, ‘Black Au Noir’, ‘Indigo’ and ‘Goma-kohiki’.

Akio is an artist who enjoys and treasures the opportunity to meet his collectors face-to-face, and thus, he tries to attend all of his overseas exhibitions, host workshops and visit local pottery makers. Unfortunately, due to the epidemic, Akio is unable to come to Hong Kong personally this time. However, as the artist has always felt close to Hong Kong and has always been grateful for the support from his Hong Kong collectors, he has decided to continue with this exhibition and send Hong Kong his work as an encouragement and connection to the city.

Maison Huit fully supports the artist’s 3rd exhibition in Hong Kong amongst difficulties, uncertainties and disruptions. We believe at difficult times like this, art is even more important is providing a sense of serenity and connection to our society, and we hope Akio Nukaga’s ceramic works can brings joy and hope to everyone who comes to the exhibition.
